About us

Praktikawelten is a company that offers internships, voluntary work, Work & Travel and High School programs in currently 24 countries worldwide in Africa, Asia, Latin and North America as well Australia & New Zealand. Volunteering Coordinator Zanzibar

Job Profile

We are looking for a coordinator in charge for the development and coordination of our Volunteering and Internship Projekts in Nungwi, Zanzibar. The main duties include the coordination of placements and accommodation of our participants, coordination with local projects and authorities, as well as the support of our participants during their stay in Zanzibar. Communication with our headquarter in Munich/Germany is also part of the job.

Duties and Tasks

  • Support for Researching and finding projects which are acceptable for the volunteers
  • Building and maintaining partnerships with local projects and community for providing a sustainable relationship
  • Organize the Airport Pick-up of our volunteers
  • Give them a detailed orientation covering local transport, necessary places, giving safety advices, local customs and how to behave with locals
  • Arrange weekly Volunteer come together, ask for their feedback and organizing weekly activities
  • If necessary, help Volunteers to get or extend the Visa and Work Permit
  • Introduce volunteers to their project and make sure that they know about their work schedule and their duties at the project
  • Intervene if volunteers are having problems at their project
  • Handle all emergency situations and support our participants in all necessary businesses
  • Make sure the 24-hours emergency phone line is working
  • Taking care of the maintenance of the Volunteering House
  • Coordination of staff (Cooks, Security Personnel) to ensure the quality and security of the programme
  • Communication with the head office in Germany, e.g. handling of bookings and applications, sending weekly reports, etc.
  • Handling of complaints of Volunteers and arrangement of project or accommodation changes if necessary


  • Preferred Work Experience in tourism/cultural exchange or social care
  • Intercultural competence and empathy
  • Assertiveness, punctuality, friendliness, reliability
  • Good command of English and Suaheli
  • Minimum age: 25 years
  • Good local knowledge
  • Computer literacy: MS-Office, Outlook
